The Food Project
Why ‘The Food Project?’
In addition to its foundation arm, which serves as a platform for real life hospitality training for students at Newman College, The Food Project also operates as a social enterprise café focused on raising funds to support a cause nominated by students each year. (The Student Representative Council work towards this decision)
The Food Project has utilized all faculties of Newman College in its development, for example the Furniture department has already contributed cabinetry, tabletops and various timber service items, Engineering has worked on outdoor tables and signage and our Art department has screen-printed the kitchen staff t-shirts.
The Food Project’s potential is evolving and open to suggestions.
How?
Put simply, you can enjoy Good Food and help us contribute towards a Great Cause.
Students are rostered on before school, at morning tea and lunch to serve beverages and food while the Commercial Cookery classes are timetabled around these service periods to create tasty dishes at very reasonable prices under the direction of Head Chef Charles James. On occasion external guests are invited to book in for morning tea or lunch. You can call the College front office on 6580 3800 to when the next open event is scheduled.
What’s the cause?
Well that is the question put to students on a regular basis. All fundraising events hosted at The Food Project are generally linked to local worthy causes driven by the College Student Representative Council (SRC) following student and staff input.
So The Cause is always the twofold – students gain real skills while contributing to worthwhile projects.
