Congratulations to Newman Year 12 students Tamazyn Ledden and Bejay Dennis who were named winners in their respective categories at the 2021 NSW Training Awards North Coast and Mid North Coast Region in Coffs Harbour on 11 June. Tamazyn, the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year and Bejay the VET in Schools Student of the Year. An outstanding achievement by two very motivated young students.
Tamazyn, who is currently studying Certificate II Hospitality at Newman, said was thankful and honoured to be nominated and when she was younger, could never have imagined that she could achieve this.
Bejay commented that is great to be acknowledged for working well in this field of training. “I’m a more hands-on learner and to be recognised for my effort and abilities in this way is encouraging. I am very grateful to receive the award”.
The NSW Training Awards are conducted annually by Training Services NSW to recognise outstanding achievement in the vocational education and training sector. The Awards honour and reward the achievements of students, trainers/teachers, training organisations, large and medium employers. The North Coast regional presentation celebrates the quality that the VET sector generates from Taree in the south to Tweed Heads in the north.
Both students will now have the opportunity to progress to represent the North Coast at the State Awards and ultimately, the National Training Awards and Newman College will be backing them all the way.
