Every two years, more than 500 Regional Competitions are held in 35 regions across Australia, testing the skills and knowledge of Apprentices, Trainees and students in Vocational Education and Training. Last week saw a flurry of VET in Schools (VETis) WorldSkills competitions happening at Port Macquarie’s Newman Senior Technical College, St Paul’s Kempsey and Hunter Trade College.
Newman College hosted Zone 3 of the Regional WorldSkills VETis Competitions for Automotive, Commercial Cookery, Food & Beverage, Information Technology, Brick & Block, Furniture Making Retail and Tourism.
Students and judges from Hastings Secondary College Port Macquarie, Hunter Trade College Maitland, St Paul’s Kempsey and of course Newman College gathered to participate in their field of expertise.
“The NSW Zone 3 Region is massive, taking in Hunter, New England and North Coast and therefore is a tremendous achievement for all competitors to compete in this stage”. Leader of VET Curriculum – Tom Moriarty stated.
“Overall a fantastic achievement and testament to the student’s skill and commitment.” Mr Moriarty commented.
The medal winners from these Regional Competitions will have the chance to compete on a National level next year at the 2018 National Championships to be held in Sydney in June next year.
